Speaking from experience.

Fridays Crit.

Friday's crit was pretty successful. John seemed to really like my idea and kind of emphasize some of the points I made.I'm still sticking to my video tour guide.I said I was thinking of just doing a video tour guide of leeds with hand out maps and checklist, not really thinking about how I was going to deliver it. But when I had the crit I we talked about a DVD with a map inside the cover of the DVD. This obviously involved packaging. We discussed how open this idea was in terms of format and delivery.I then began to think about the web.Youtube is a really easily accessible source and could be accessed from anywhere with a web connection. Before I moved to leeds I never knew the city at all and all I had to go on was a youtube video for leeds met living and it never really told me alot,so I know there's nothing on there that could be of any use to new graphics students who have moved from home.So we began to talk about a unique youtube channel for the course. This then involved channel branding etc so this video idea is so open and versatile to any format really.I was thinking about stickers around the college or around the college promoting the tour etc so theres a bunch of products and solutions to this.

How did you adapt to Leeds?

I asked first year students who have been here since Sept 09 who were new to leeds how they adapted to their new surroundings. The question was quite vague so it was open to any answers.

Speaking from experience.

Concept 1.|adapting to Leeds.

IDEAS
1. Make the most of your spare time and explore the city.
2. Get lost. It's all part of experience.
3. make sure to pick up pamphlets promoting exhibitions and events
4. Make note (mental or physical) of best places for food and drink.
5.Make sure you know the public transport system in leeds.

RESEARCH.
Photos of the city attractions and events. Collecting leaflets promoting events and look at tour guide techniques. Question the current first years who were new to leeds how they adapted to a new city.

RESOLUTION.
An interactive video tour guide of leeds complete with check list for the best sights/attractions.

Problem Analysis - Rationale

Breif: (What is the problem you intend to solve?)
Students who are new to leeds don't know the city that well.

WHO NEEDS TO KNOW? (who is your audience? Be concise no more then ten words.)
Students who are new to Leeds and feel lost

WHAT DO THEY NEED TO KNOW? (be clear and specific.)
To get to know the city better they need to be more aware of things going on within the city. Events, gallery exhibitions etc. They also need to know general things about the city such as best places to go for a meal, best pub, and what the public transport is like.

WHY DO THEY NEED TO KNOW? (be clear and specific.)
Because it makes them feel more comfortable with their new surroundings. They wont feel lost and vulnerable walking around. Knowing where you're going at night and what transport is available at night is vital.

WHAT WILL THEY RESPOND TO?(How will they connect/understand the outcome?)
An interactive video tour guide of leeds complete with check list for the best sights/attractions.
They will connect by going around the town center with the checklist and tick things off they see.

WHAT RESEARCH IS REQUIRED? (What do you need to know in order to complete this brief to the fullest potential?)
Photos of the city attractions and events. Collecting leaflets promoting events and look at tour guide techniques. Question the current first years who were new to leeds how they adapted to a new city.
